Treasury notes are government bonds issued by the Department of Treasury which is a department of the administrative branch of the US government. Treasury notes have different terms and are generally considered to be the most risk free of investments as they are backed by the US government. The yield on the 30 year treasury note is normally taken as the measure of the longest term interest rates.
